Was founded by Ziff Davis as an extension of their then-owned print outlet EGM. Through a series of acquisitions, it was eventually purchased by IGN in 2011 and then again by Ziff Davis in 2013.

Following this last acquisition, Ziff Davis closed 1up, having IGN absorb its former writers. The site still survives as of today, but hasn't been updated since 2013.
